Frequentie:
Meestal na het 50ste levendsjaar

Risicofactoren:

Verschijnselen:
Doffe hoofdpijn waardoor de patient wakker wordt
Duurt langer dan 15 minutern (kan tot enkele uren duren)
Ontstaat meestal >15 dagen per maand
Kunnen samengaan met misselijkheid of lichtschuwheid of geluidschuwheid (niet en, maar of)

DD: kanker, migraine, cluster hoofdpijn, chronische hemicrania, epileptische insulten 's nachts, OSAS, ontrekkingsverschijnsel, feochromocytoom, arteriitis temporalis, subduraal haematoom, hydrocefalus, verhoogde hersendruk.
