Insuline like growth factor (IGF, somatomedines)

Oorzaken:
Worden in vrijwel alle cellen geproduceerd (voornamelijk in de lever). De effecteb van IGF's zijn: toename glucosetransport, afname lipolyse, glycogeenstapeling, eiwitsynthese, stimulatie celdeling, differentiatie van fibroblasten/ spiercellen/ chondrocyten.
Er bestaat IGF-1 en IGF-2. IGF-1 is het meest groeihormoon afhankelijk.
IFG bindt aan IGFBP (insuline like growth factor binding proteins). IGFBP-3 is klinisch van betekenis, omdat het groeihormoon afhankelijk is.
